Best Rooftop Bars in Barcelona
Barcelona's skyline — a dense patchwork of modernista towers and flat roofs, with the mountains behind and the sea ahead — is one of the most beautiful in Europe. These rooftop bars make the most of it.
Barcelona's rooftop bar scene has exploded in the last decade, driven by the city's long warm season (evenings are pleasant from April through October) and an increasingly sophisticated hospitality industry. The best addresses offer not just views but genuinely good drinks programmes — proper vermut hour (from 12:00–14:00, the sacred Barcelona aperitivo ritual), craft cocktails, and an expanding selection of natural Catalan wines.
The key distinction to make is between hotel rooftops and standalone bars. Hotel rooftops (W, Grand Hotel Central, Ohla) generally offer the most polished service and the most spectacular views, but at a price premium and a dress code that can feel restrictive. Standalone rooftops in the Eixample and Poblenou tend to be less polished but more authentically Barcelonan — cheaper, louder, and with a local crowd rather than a tourist one.
For sunset, arrive 30 minutes before the projected sunset time. The golden light on Gaudí's city is extraordinary, and tables with direct western views fill fast.
